How to set up split-testing within the 'Recommendations' tool

In this article, we will look at how to set up split-testing within your recommendations tool and where to find the results of the split-test.

Setting up split-testing within the 'Recommendations' tool is especially easy to set up and can be live within a few minutes.

Firstly, you must ensure that you have more than one unit variant set up.

Once you have navigated to the first recommendations variant that you would like to like to set up split testing against, you will see the below.

As you can see in the above image the units both have the same slot strategies in place and 'Variant 1' is set as 100% weighting.

We would suggest ensuring each 'Variant' has different slot strategies so that the split testing results give you a defined result at the end of the test as to which type of strategy performs best on your site.

For example in the image below you can see that we have altered the slot strategies for each variant.

Once you have finalised your slot strategies you will be able to change the weighting of each variant so that your split test is showing each of the variants to the desired percentage of customers. Using the 'Campaign Settings' at the topmost area of the module select 'Split Testing Options'

Once selected this will cause a small screen to pop up and allow you to customise the unit weighting of the recommendations within the module. This will then dictate how many of your customers, as a percentage, will be shown one of the variants as they view the recommendation unit on your website.

As you can see in the image above it is as simple as sliding the weighting slider to the desired percentage. Once you have done the above and saved your changes then your variants will update and will be good to go live on your site.

Please ensure both unit variants are live in order for your split test to run successfully.

You can view the results of your split-test at the top of the module screen underneath the 'Results' tab.
