Single and Double Opt-In Processes

Salesfire allows you to choose how new contacts are added to your marketing subscriber lists using either a Single Opt-In or Double Opt-In process.

The option you choose determines whether a customer is immediately subscribed or must confirm their subscription before being added to the list.

Salesfire provides two options:

  • Single Opt-In – the customer is subscribed immediately after submitting their details.
  • Double Opt-In – the customer must confirm their subscription before being added to the marketing list.

Your chosen opt-in process can be configured within the Preferences section of your Marketing Subscribers list. Your Marketing Subscribers List can be found in the Salesfire navigation menu under Audiences and then within the Segments and Lists tab (marked as default).

Single Opt-In

With Single Opt-In, a customer is immediately subscribed to the selected marketing list when they submit their details.

No additional confirmation is required.

Double Opt-In

With Double Opt-In, customers must confirm their subscription before they are added to the marketing subscriber list.

This adds an additional confirmation step to the subscription process.

How it works

  1. A customer submits their details through a Data Collection Campaign.
  2. This data is collected into a form submission list and can then be added to a List in the Segments & Lists section of the Salesfire dashboard.
  3. Salesfire identifies that the selected list requires Double Opt-In (if this option has been selected under preferences).
  4. The customer is sent a confirmation email.
  5. The customer clicks the confirmation link within the email.
  6. Their subscription is confirmed.
  7. The customer is added to the relevant marketing subscriber list.

If the customer does not complete the confirmation step, they will not be subscribed to the list.

Double Opt-In Flow

When Double Opt-In is enabled, Salesfire automatically uses a dedicated Double Opt-In Flow to manage the confirmation process.

From the Preferences page, select View your flow to open the flow builder.

double opt in flow

The flow starts with the Requires Double Opt-In trigger. This identifies contacts who have submitted their details to a list that requires confirmation.

The flow can then contain the confirmation communications required to complete the process.

Default flow

The example flow contains:

Requires Double Opt-In → Email → SMS → End

The email and SMS steps are shown as Transactional, as they are being used to facilitate the subscription confirmation process rather than as marketing communications.

Confirmation Email

The confirmation email is the key step in the Double Opt-In process.

The customer receives an email asking them to confirm that they want to subscribe. This can be edited by follow the above steps.
